Limited total supply: The maximum supply of STORJ is capped at 425 million tokens. This fixed limit can help protect against inflation and support the Storj price, particularly if demand for storage increases.
Medium of payment within the ecosystem: The token serves as the native currency of the network. All customers pay for their storage either directly with STORJ or in fiat currency, which is automatically converted in the background.
Rewards for node operators: Individuals or companies providing unused hard drive capacity and bandwidth (known as Storage Node Operators) are compensated in STORJ.
Staking and token buybacks: In 2025, new mechanisms were introduced, including a staking system and monthly token buybacks funded by a portion of network revenues. These measures reduce the circulating supply, which, according to market theory, could support the Storj price.

What influences the Storj price?

When the DePIN sector gains momentum, the Storj price tends to benefit and vice versa. In addition to this broader market dynamic, the following factors influence the price of the cryptocurrency:

Product usage: The more storage is demanded, the more it supports the Storj price. The same applies to the company’s additional offerings, including GPU rental services, which also contribute to overall demand.
Strategic corporate decisions: News regarding the future of the project has a direct impact on the price. For example, in October 2025, Inveniam announced its intention to acquire Storj. This initially triggered a nearly 20 percent drop in price, as investors were uncertain about the project’s future and the token’s role within it.
Tokenomics adjustments: Changes in cost structure or token mechanisms affect price development. The introduction of monthly token buybacks in July 2025 had a supportive effect on the Storj price.

Events at other DePIN projects (such as Filecoin) or Web2 competitors also affect Storj price. A service disruption at a centralized provider, such as the one experienced by AWS on October 20 and 21, 2025, can temporarily boost decentralized alternatives. Storj, for instance, gained approximately 20 percent in the short term, but subsequently gave up those gains following the acquisition announcement by Inveniam.

Price history: Key events in Storj price development

October 2025: Current Storj price
The year 2025 was highly volatile for STORJ, driven in part by a series of significant news events. After a strong start to the year, the token’s price declined through the summer. In the fall, volatility intensified: On October 20, a service outage at Amazon Web Services (AWS) triggered a short-term price surge of 20 percent. Just days later, the announcement of STORJ’s acquisition by Inveniam led to a sell-off of roughly the same magnitude.
Prior to that, however, STORJ had already corrected sharply in response to the broader crypto crash on October 10. As of early November 2025, the token is trading within a range of EUR 0.13 to EUR 0.17, approximately 75 percent below its yearly highs.
2023 to 2024: DePIN enthusiasm drives Storj price
Toward the end of 2023, DePIN ecosystems gained significant attention. As one of the most prominent projects, Storj initiated a strong rally that lifted its price from yearly lows of EUR 0.21 to over EUR 0.80 by year-end, marking an increase of approximately 300 percent. These highs persisted in the following spring, after which the price retreated once again. In the crypto-friendly environment of late 2024, Storj closed the year at around EUR 0.53.
2021 to 2022: Standstill despite STORJ all-time high
Driven by the broader crypto bull market and the NFT hype, Storj’s price surged twice in 2021. On March 28, the token reached its all-time high of approximately EUR 3.38, a level that remains valid to this day. In late November, it climbed to similar heights, exceeding EUR 2.50. However, all gains were subsequently sold off. Overall, the token remained flat between early 2021 and the end of 2022, trading around EUR 0.22.
2017 to 2020: Weak years after strong start
Like many other projects and tokens launched during the crypto hype of 2017, Storj saw early momentum. Shortly after its launch, the token reached an interim high of EUR 1.53 in mid-August, followed by a higher peak of approximately EUR 2 around the turn of the year 2017 to 2018. The price of Storj initially resisted the emerging bear market, posting another interim high of roughly EUR 1 in May 2018, but ultimately could not escape the downward trend. By the end of 2019, the price had declined to EUR 0.09. Storj reached its all-time low during the COVID-induced crash on March 13, 2020, when the price dropped to around EUR 0.042.

Current developments: Forecasting Storj price

The acquisition of Storj by Inveniam has become a central theme in many price forecasts for the STORJ token in fall 2025. From the perspective of many investors, it is seen as a positive development that the company will continue to operate as an independent subsidiary and that the STORJ token will retain its core function as a means of payment within the network.

The real-world adoption of Storj products, such as storage and GPU services, could accelerate through Inveniam’s customer base, potentially increasing demand for the STORJ token. Critics, however, fear that the project’s decentralized nature may be at risk due to the sale.
Beyond the acquisition, the overall adoption of Storj’s products will also be a decisive factor. With a market capitalization of just under EUR 60 million, STORJ significantly lags behind larger competitors such as Filecoin, which stands at approximately EUR 910 million.
