Understand the Numeraire (NMR) Euro Price

The Numeraire price reflects the performance of the cryptocurrency NMR, which is central to an ecosystem connecting artificial intelligence, data science, and crypto on the Ethereum blockchain. This overview explains the key factors influencing the NMR price, outlines its historical performance, and provides insights into the current outlook for Numeraire.

Key facts about the Numeraire price

  • Numeraire (NMR) is the native cryptocurrency of Numerai, a company that integrates artificial intelligence and hedge fund management on the Ethereum blockchain. Through competitive tournaments, it crowdsources AI models from data scientists to generate forecasts for equity and crypto markets.
  • The Numeraire price is heavily influenced by the prevailing AI narrative and the actual performance of the underlying hedge fund. Participants stake NMR on their models, and accurate forecasts are rewarded with NMR, while poor predictions result in token burns (deflation).
  • Excluding a brief spike shortly after launch, NMR reached its all-time high in April 2021 at approximately EUR 62. Its all-time low dates to January 2019, when the price fell to around EUR 2.45.
  • As of fall 2025, Numeraire is trading within a range of EUR 10 to EUR 12, with the cryptocurrency’s market capitalization standing at approximately EUR 75 million.

How is the Numeraire price calculated?

The price of Numeraire (NMR) is determined by supply and demand. Its distinctive tokenomics are rooted in the Numerai company’s underlying concept, which diverges significantly from traditional stores of value such as Bitcoin or DeFi protocols.

Numerai crowdsources machine learning models from thousands of data scientists through two parallel competitions: one focused on equity market forecasts (the “Numerai Hedge Fund”) and a newer one targeting crypto market predictions (“Numerai Crypto”). Tokenomics are directly tied to the success of these AI-driven tournaments:

  • Staking: NMR’s main function is staking. Participants in the tournaments are required to stake tokens based on the performance of their own AI prediction models. To enter, they must purchase NMR on the open market, which in turn generates demand for the token.
  • Rewards: Correct forecasts earn participants NMR rewards from treasury wallets.
  • Burning (deflation): If participants’ forecasts turn out to be inaccurate, the NMR tokens they have staked are burned.

These mechanisms penalize underperforming models and reward high-performing ones. In addition, both token burns and buybacks have a deflationary effect. The total supply of NMR is capped at eleven million.

What influences the Numeraire price?

Despite its unique concept, the price of Numeraire is not immune to broader bull and bear market cycles. However, the project is also shaped by performance catalysts specific to its ecosystem:

  • Hedge fund success: Fundamental news regarding real-world adoption and the hedge fund’s performance has a direct impact on the Numeraire price. For instance, when JPMorgan announced in August 2025 that it had secured USD 500 million in capacity within the Numeraire Hedge Fund, the NMR price surged, doubling sharply.
  • Tournament growth: The more participants join the competitions, the higher the demand for NMR, which supports the price. The reverse also holds true.
  • Token buybacks: Announcements like July 2025 buyback programs boost price.

Numeraire’s strong focus on AI adoption continues to drive its price. Major AI milestones, such as the ChatGPT hype in early 2023 or robust earnings from chipmakers like Nvidia in spring 2024, frequently spark rallies.

Price history: Key events in NMR price development

  1. October 2025: Current Numeraire price
The year 2025 has been highly volatile for NMR. Until mid-April, the Numeraire price was in a clear downtrend, with recovery attempts in May and June quickly sold off. After modest gains in the following months, positive momentum emerged in late summer. First, the July 2025 announcement of a USD 1 million buyback program provided support. Shortly thereafter, Numeraire surged by 100 percent in late August, reaching just under EUR 18 within a very short period.

The rally was triggered by news that JPMorgan had secured USD 500 million in capacity within the Numeraire hedge fund. Since then, however, NMR has entered another consolidation phase. Even after the minor market shock on 10 October, the price has been fluctuating between EUR 10 and EUR 12.
  2. 2023 to 2024: AI hype drives NMR price
Both years were marked by the rise of AI. In early 2023, the hype surrounding ChatGPT triggered an initial rally, lifting the NMR price from lows around EUR 10 to nearly EUR 20 by March. Almost exactly one year later, a similar development unfolded, this time with significantly more momentum. In spring 2024, strong earnings from AI companies such as Nvidia provided another boost, driving Numeraire to nearly EUR 40.

This was followed by a sharp sell-off of 75 percent, bringing the price down to EUR 10 in September. Then the crypto- and tech-friendly market environment, partly driven by the U.S. election, helped to boost the price again.
  3. 2020 to 2022: Positive months for Numeraire before the bear market
Following a COVID-induced low of around EUR 4.34, the Numeraire price recovered significantly over the subsequent months. In August 2020, NMR was listed on Coinbase. The peak, excluding the initial post-launch spike, remains the all-time high from April 2021, when the price exceeded EUR 62. However, gains were sold off during the subsequent bear market, with the price dropping to around EUR 7.50 in June 2022. By year-end, NMR closed at approximately EUR 12, marking a 50 percent decline from the annual highs.
  4. 2017 to 2019: Two highs post-launch, few positive impulses
Numeraire launched in 2017. Immediately after its listing in June, the price briefly spiked above EUR 145 but ultimately settled into two highs around EUR 35 in the following months. The years 2018 and 2019 were largely characterized by sideways movement. Starting in January 2018, the price declined by 93 percent within a year, reaching EUR 2.45. By the end of 2020, Numeraire had more than doubled again, trading at approximately EUR 5.50.

Current developments: Forecasting NMR price

Forecasts for the Numeraire price typically hinge on two key factors: the scope of developments in the AI sector and the number of participants in the hosted competitions.

The August 2025 announcement that JPMorgan is allocating capacity to the Numeraire hedge fund marked a major milestone for the project and underscores the credibility of its approach. Going forward, a positive price outlook will largely depend on whether Numeraire can leverage this success to attract additional institutional capital.
