Understand the Cosmos (ATOM) Euro Price

“Internet of Blockchains”: This is the nickname that has become firmly established for the Cosmos ecosystem within the crypto community. The Cosmos price represents the price of the native ATOM token. Here is an overview of how the coin price has evolved since its launch in 2019, the key factors driving its valuation, and the outlook for future Cosmos price forecasts.

Key facts about the Cosmos price

  • Cosmos is an ecosystem for interoperable blockchains, often called the “Internet of Blockchains.”
  • The native coin ATOM has no maximum cap; its price development is chiefly influenced by the adoption of the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol, revenues from Interchain Security (ICS), and general staking rates.
  • The Cosmos price reached its all-time high in September 2021 at approximately EUR 38.20. In March 2020, during the height of the COVID crash, ATOM recorded its all-time low just below EUR 1.
  • In fall 2025, following the flash crash on October 11, the Cosmos price is trading within a range of EUR 2.50 to EUR 3, with a market capitalization of approximately EUR 1.3 billion.
  • The outlook for ATOM largely depends on whether growing ecosystem value can be linked directly to the token through mechanisms such as ICS, thereby generating sustainable demand.

How is the Cosmos price calculated?

The Cosmos price is determined by market supply and demand. Unlike other cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Sui, or Avalanche, the supply of ATOM is unlimited. Instead, the following tokenomics form the core basis for price determination:

  • Inflationary model: Due to the absence of a “cap”, Cosmos exhibits an inflationary nature, one that is inherently variable. New ATOM tokens are continuously issued as staking rewards, with the inflation rate dynamically adjusting to the proportion of tokens staked. If less than two-thirds of the circulating ATOM supply is staked, inflation can rise to a maximum of ten percent.
  • Proof-of-Stake (PoS): ATOM is the staking token of the Cosmos Hub. Holders can delegate coins to one of 180 validators to secure the network and receive a portion of inflation rewards. Staked ATOM are removed from the free market, which reduces available supply and can support the Cosmos price.
  • Power of governance: Every ATOM holder has voting rights on key decisions regarding the future of the network. This utility as a governance token reinforces its fundamental value.

What influences Cosmos price?

A crucial factor affecting Cosmos price is staking. A high staking rate (rule of thumb: above 60%) is a positive signal that reduces market selling pressure and positively impacts the price development of ATOM. Other influential factors include:

  • “Internet of Blockchains”: The main price driver is the adoption of the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol. The more independent blockchains such as dYdX, Celestia, or Cronos join and communicate through the network, the greater the network effect, and the higher the value of the entire Cosmos ecosystem.
  • Interchain Security (ICS): Smaller blockchains can “rent” security directly from the Cosmos Hub, paying transaction fees and token rewards to ATOM stakers.
  • General market sentiment: Like most altcoins, Cosmos is strongly affected by overall market conditions. Bullish trends in Bitcoin and Ethereum pull up Cosmos price, while bear markets put it under pressure.

Price history: Key events in ATOM price development

  1. October 2025: Current Cosmos price
The year 2025 began strongly for Cosmos, but the breakout above the repeatedly tested EUR 10 threshold in prior years proved unsustainable. ATOM subsequently entered a downward trend, settling into a range between EUR 3.50 and EUR 4.70. In October, the Cosmos price was hit hard by the flash crash but managed to recover into a range between EUR 2.50 and EUR 3.
  2. 2024: Continued downtrend
The year 2024 was initially marked by a prolonged sideways movement in the Cosmos price, with a brief breakout attempt in March reaching EUR 13, before a sell-off began. Between August and November, ATOM repeatedly hit lows in the EUR 3.30 to 3.60 range. This was followed by an extreme rally, driven by a crypto-friendly environment, including the election or Trump, pushing the price up to EUR 10. However, the strong gains were quickly reversed, with the year closing at around EUR 6, representing a year-on-year decline of approximately 40 percent.
  3. 2023: Sharp volatility due to governance debates
The year 2023 was highly volatile for Cosmos: a strong rally through spring led to a yearly high of EUR 14, followed by a controlled downtrend that extended into November, dipping below EUR 6. Subsequently, a renewed upward trend emerged, driving the price to around EUR 10.

A key event and catalyst for the strong recovery following the yearly lows was Governance Proposal 848 in November, which reduced the maximum inflation rate to ten percent. However, this decision divided the Cosmos community and triggered significant price movements, as it altered the fundamental incentives for stakers.
  4. 2022: Terra collapse negatively impacts Cosmos
As sharply as the Cosmos price had risen the year before, it fell just as hard during the 2022 bear market. As a core component of the Terra ecosystem, ATOM was severely impacted by the collapse of the algorithmic stablecoins UST and LUNA in May. The crash wiped out billions in capital across the Cosmos ecosystem, sending the price from around EUR 38 at the start of the year to below EUR 6 by June. A recovery followed toward year-end, with the price rebounding to approximately EUR 9.
  5. 2021: ATOM all-time high in a strong bull market
The year 2021 was by far the strongest for ATOM’s price performance. Driven by the broader crypto bull market and growing interest in the ‘Internet of Blockchains’, the price reached its current all-time high of approximately EUR 38.51 on September 20. The annual gain amounted to roughly 400 percent.
  6. 2019 to 2020: Limited sustainable price movements post-launch
Following the mainnet launch in March 2019, the Cosmos price moved sideways for an extended period, with a yearly low of approximately EUR 1.83. During the ‘DeFi Summer’ of 2020, the first notable and more sustained breakout occurred, temporarily pushing the price above EUR 7.20. The year closed below EUR 5. The current all-time low also dates to that year, recorded during the COVID crash in March 2020, when the price briefly fell to just under EUR 1.

Current developments: Forecasting the Cosmos price (ATOM)

Forecasts for the Cosmos price are divided depending on perspective. Many (potential) investors in ATOM are drawn to the technological vision of the ‘Internet of Blockchains’ (with around 150 connected blockchains and USD 2.5 billion in transfer volume as of fall 2025). At the same time, the coin’s price performance has not reflected the growth of the ecosystem for years.

A sustainably positive catalyst could come from the ‘Eureka’ upgrade, launched in April 2025, which establishes a direct and cost-efficient bridge to Ethereum.

Conversely, ATOM is facing a challenge in terms of value accrual. While staking offers yields of up to 15 percent, these returns are primarily funded through the inflationary issuance of new ATOM tokens. Revenue generated from Interchain Security (ICS) remains modest. Moreover, the decision by key projects such as Neutron to transition to their own security model is adding further pressure.
